I would like to find out some history on #1003. I know Lucas films acquired it from William Pettit of Louisa,VA. who had it in his museum for many years. What about before then? Because of it's low number was it taken around and shown? Would really appreciate some information on the car. Thank you. Walter

Concerning 1003

Postby Larry Clark » Mon Jun 13, 2005 8:29 pm

Walter: I can tell you that the car was sold on 8/11/48 to Numerick Auto Sales in Ohio. Before the Pettit Museum aquired the car, I believe in 1962, it was owned by a Paul Stern. I have conflicting accounts of whether this was one of the cars owned by Nick Jenin. I would guess that even if Jenin owned the car that there was at least one other owner between Numerick and Stern. I understand that Russ Brownell restored the engine and transmission. I believe Richard Jones would tell you that the car was not used in the movie. Larry

Larry, thank you for telling me what you know about the car. The people at Lucas Film Ltd. told me motor and tranny had been restored on the car when it was done to their restored keeper Silver Tucker. The site has it as number 1009 but in reality it is 1011. 1003 is in need of many things but it runs great. I would be very interested information Richard Jones has on the car. Thanks. Walter

Tucker Serial Number 1003 and 1009

Postby Richard » Tue Jun 14, 2005 6:10 am

Bill Pettit purchased Tucker 1003 in 1967. I believe he purchased it from Nick Jennin. Tucker Serial Number 1003 has a body number of 1003.
Tucker 1003 was not in Richmond for the movie and did not appear in the movie. In fact Lucas did not purchase it until after the movie had been made.

Tucker 1003 has an early radio. The control head push buttons read 1-2-3-4-5-M. At the time I inspected the car (1985) the speedometer read 13,391 miles. I am sure that the actual mileage is at least 100,000 miles above the 13,391 showing.

The Serial Number of Lucas other Tucker is 1009. Not 1011. 1011 is the Body Number of 1009. The problem here is that the body munber is stamped in large numbers on the data plate above the serial number. The serial number is half the size of the body number and is on the very bottom of the data plate. I have inspected this car and know this information is correct. Tucker Serial Number 1009 was in Richmond for the movie and is shown in several scenes. Lucas purchased Tucker Serial Number 1009 from the Bill Goodwin Museum in August 1987.

Some records indicate that Tucker Serial Number 1009 was purchased at auction by Ezra Schlipf who sold it to Nick Jennin. Jennin sold it to Tim & Toni Lamoureus of Santa Monica, CA. I know that Bill Hamlin of Ontario, CA helped Mr. Goodwin obtain this car and restored for him prior to Mr. Goodwin taking delivery.

Tucker Serial Number 1003

Above I mentioned that Mr. Pettit purchased 1003 in 1967. When I visited with Mr. pettit in 1985 he told me he had the car for over 18 years. So he could have purchased in several years prior to 1967.

P.S. The reason I no longer visit this web site often is the inability to log on as Plancor 792. For some reason this web site tells me that Plancor 792 belongs to someone else.

Richard, thank you for clearing all that up. I made a bad mistake by looking at the ID plate of Lucas' silver Tucker last week and saw the 1011 in big numbers and of course did not look any further. I guess you are completely right that it is 1009 and I apologize to Joe on my mistake too as I emailed him that he had the wrong number on the Tucker site. I appreciate the correspondence on 1003 too. I have some new updates on that car after the convention is over. Thank you. Walter
PS Richard I changed my Tucker Club user name 2 other times because it said it was being used by someone else. I think in reality it was just being used by me and I didn't know how to get into it to let it know it was really me. I got it handled now.

Joe, I've been doing the typing for Walter. He can't type even when his hands are ok. The worst part of my job is helping him in the bathroom and proping a spoon between 2 fingers. The hospital said we could get the stitches out in a week to 10 days and I'll sure be glad when that happens. He misses not going much more than you. We will try to make it up to the club at a later date. Nicki

I know, I know. But a little ribbing helps the healing process.
